Five life lessons you learn when you train BJJ.
Braziliaans jiujitsu is mega populair in Nederland.
The bigger and stronger does not always win.
An important principle of BJJ is that size and weight do not (always) matter.
In BJJ you quickly learn that a smaller person without athletic ability can already give you a hard time.
Based on technique and skills you can take on bigger and stronger opponents.
You simply cannot underestimate anyone.
I learned this soon after my first JiuJitsu class, at the time I weighed 106kg.
At the time I was doing crossfit, boxing and weightlifting.
I felt that I had something to contribute.
After I was tapped out ten times with the same arm clamp by someone forty kilos lighter than me, I quickly changed my mind and signed up immediately!
 2. You're never too old to learn something new!
BJJ training is for people of all ages and skill levels.
You do everything at your own pace in training and take the time to learn and master the techniques of course under resistance.
Personally, I only got on the mat after a 6 year rehab journey and 33 surgeries.
If I can do it, you most definitely can!
One of the most important concepts I learned and you can learn too is levers.
With a lever technique you can hold off bigger opponents and also make them tap out(technique)
Levers can also be applied in everyday life.
Think about leverage in business, your work or personal life.
Levers teaches us to achieve maximum results with the least amount of effort.
3. Technique over strength
Another important principle you learn in jiujitsu is that technique is king.
In fact, the power is in the technique.
Once you master the technique, it reinforces the strength you already have naturally or acquired through strength and conditioning training.
In addition, BJJ training constantly puts you in situations where you have to solve problems.
Think of escaping submissions and plighted positions.
Doing something recklessly and without proper thought on a BJJ mat has consequences.
For example, getting strangled or getting a clamp around your ears.
In everyday life, dealing with confrontations or problems is also not wise without being strategic in your approach.
These are all opportunities to hone your problem-solving skills.
4. Coping with setbacks.
Everyone who trains BJJ has started at the bottom of the ladder.
No one escapes knockdowns, defeats and the necessary humiliation that comes with being tied up in a knot and making the same mistakes over and over again.
In your life, you are bound to have these kinds of moments of frustration and failure.
Think of that blue you picked up, that job you didn't get or that thesis where you banged your head against the wall several times.
Therefore, growth only occurs with the things you do outside your comfort zone.
Therefore, at BJJ amersfoort, we emphasize learning through experience and resistance.
Otherwise, your life would just be a little boring right?!
All these moments are an opportunity to learn something new about yourself, your field or your studies.
The kind of perseverance you develop on the mat will help you overcome the obstacles you face in your life.
5. You can't do it alone.
