6 tips for your first BJJ match.

Matches in BJJ are not mandatory to do, you can only learn a lot from them.
Hence, we at jiujitsu Amersfoort advise to do it once.
With this BJJ blog we try to encourage and inspire you for a BJJ match of course.

Six tips you can benefit from:

1: Weight Class
Jiujitsu has weight classes, so enter with a weight that is close to your natural weight.
You don't have to diet yourself to death for your first BJJ tournament.
When you have a little more experience you can see what weight you feel best at.

2: Diet
If you are used to eating certain things, don't change it right before a competition. We as humans are routine animals.
Stick to your routine, even if it means eating big macs every day and drinking a Coke.
I'm going to go on a carnivore diet with fruit for example.
Everyone is different and what works for someone else may not work for you.

3: Warm up
Everyone has their own favorite routine, what most people will agree on is a sport-specific warm up.
Think solo drills, throws and position sparring.

4: Strategy for Race Day:
No one goes to a race to come in second.
You want to win it just won't always go your way.
Come up with a strategy and a plan B for when things don't go your way.

5: Work on your strengths:

A common mistake is for jiujitsukas to add new techniques to the arsenal a few weeks before the competition, don't do this. Do this at times when no competitions are scheduled.

Learning new skills takes time and you don't just do it three weeks before a BJJ match!

6: Enjoy:
Don't forget to enjoy it, competing in BJJ is a privilege.
You are healthy, fit and practicing the most enjoyable sport in the world.
